LIVING INSIDE was recorded live in 2015 at Magnetic Recording Studio in downtown Pontiac, MI. "I was living in a very small house, honing my guitar skills and writing songs, gathered a few local musicians, performed some great shows and recorded at Magnetic. The title, conceptually, originates from where I was at the time~living inside myself, trying to navigate where I was going with my original songs. At times it's a lonely spot to be in, how to grow this thing and move forward," notes Kroll. The analog recorded EP is flavored with rock, pop and a slice of blues.
This Broken Play is composed of ten songs including a soaring torch ballad, a ska-infused topical ditty and a blues-based rocker with some attitude. Piano, cello, horns and a talented pool of professionals have seasoned this compilation to create a layered body of work.
The 2020 pandemic altered musical opportunities for many, and the DIRK KROLL BAND took shelter from the storm safely at Grand Blanc's Rooftop Recording Studio in late December where a four pack of songs titled Would It Be the Same was created. The title song is a subway love song. West Thalia is influenced by novelist Larry McMurtry's Thalia trilogy about a young thinking man coming to terms that he's outgrown his hometown. Living In the Right Place is a futuristic number about a witness protection program where your appearance can be altered and you can be transported back and forth into the future. Finally, TV Show is a slice of Americana life - a melody about life's passage .
